With Emilia we had a traditional glider crib, which we got plenty of wear out of but wasn’t without issue. For example, every night she would drop her dummy through the sides and we’d be feeling around on the floor, bleary eyed in an attempt to retrieve it, or we’d have a good few spares on the bedside table ready to use should the dreaded droppage occur. She would also wake herself up knocking her hands or arms on the bars. I also think that in the early days, the ‘openness’ of the crib was a source of discomfort to her.
So this time round we were looking for a crib that would eliminate these things, as let’s face it, us parents are always in the pursuit of a better nights sleep! I liked the fact that I could see her so easily from where I lay, so I knew a moses basket wouldn’t work for us at the bedside… We were also looking for a product that would last us until the baby was ready to go into his own room (for Emilia this was around six to seven months).
Throughout this pregnancy, I’d seen the Snüzpod in many baby stores and always came back to it when browsing online. I liked the stylish look of it, the fact that it brings closeness to the baby without actually co-sleeping (personally something I’m far to nervous to do) and so when I had the opportunity to review the Snüzpod2 Bedside Crib 3-in-1, I absolutely jumped at the chance!
Snüz are a well known baby brand specialising in the award-winning Snüzpod crib, Snüzpouch Sleeping bag (next on my list for sure!) and the Snüzkot Cot Bed range (again seriously considering this as our cotbed for the baby based on how much I love the Snüzpod!).
The Snüzpod is a multi award-winning product, having won Gold in the Mother and Baby Awards for Cots, Cribs and Moses Baskets, Platinum at the Junior Design Awards and Platinum Winner with Loved By Parents. Things like this are really important to me when choosing the right baby products and so many of the products I’ve recently had the chance to review have gone on to be award winners!
I chose the Snüzpod2 Bedside Crib 3-in-1 in Eco White to go with our white and grey bedroom decor and on arrival it came flat packed. I was so excited to open and see it that with the help of my enthusiastic three year old furniture builder helper, I had it assembled in around forty-five minutes. Not bad for me being 34 weeks pregnant at the time! I found it really easy to assemble, the instructions were very clear and concise, and first impressions once built did not disappoint! For ultimate safety, it comes with straps to attach to your bed.
The Snüzpod is large enough to cater for baby’s needs until six months, but small enough to fit comfortably next to our bed without taking up too much space.
It comes with a quilted mattress which is perfect and mesh walls to the sides so it’s breathable, the mesh wall on one side unzips so you can reach over and unzip to easily comfort and feed the baby. The fabric of the bassinet itself is fully removable and easy to hand wash which is reassuring.
Underneath you’ll find a handy storage shelf for anything you need throughout the night and accessories such as the Snüzpod Pocket which I’ll definitely be buying also keeps your essentials close by. The Snüzpod also rocks back and forth so you’ll be able to feed, cuddle and soothe baby before placing baby back in the crib, raising the zip and gently rocking baby back to sleep, all without having to leave the comfort of your own bed.
As this product is able to be used as a bedside crib, as well as a moses basket and standalone bassinet, I’ve tried it out and I found it easy to move around to other rooms as you can lift off the top section and carry. Features like this I hadn’t actually known about so it’s great to know it’s so versatile and it’s great to be able to keep baby sleeping in a familiar environment!
So on first impressions it’s really easy to see why the Snüzpod is so popular, safe sleep is so important and it’s fantastic to find a product that will enable me to feel the closeness to the baby, whilst knowing he is sleeping safely in his own bed. I can’t wait to try it out and let you know how I get on with an update once he’s here!
