As we prepared for the arrival of baby number two, I recalled being asked so many baby related questions when Emilia was little, ‘how’s she feeding?’, ‘is she a good baby?’ and the one people are really obsessed with: ‘is she sleeping well?’. Though I have to say, we are really lucky that Emilia has always been a great sleeper, fairly easy to settle and with the help of a good routine (changeable with every developmental ‘leap’ I might add) pretty happy in the sleep department. However, I know that no two babies are the same and who knows what this one will be like?
When it comes to babies sleep, safety is paramount and whilst there are plenty of things we’ve kept to reuse from when Emilia was little, a new mattress has been a must on our list from the start. Ever since I found out I was pregnant and read about it in our local Mothercare, The Merifor range has been on my radar! There are so many things which drew me to this brand and so having the opportunity to review this mattress here is great.
A relatively new brand, starting out just last year, Merifor’s popularity has rapidly grown, with the brand gaining a Which? Best Buy along with fantastic awards in the Nursery Accessories, Hero Health Products and Innovation of the Year sections of the Made For Mums Awards it’s first few months of business. This is such an amazing achievement especially as the competition always rife within baby products. Immediately I have peace of mind in the range and brand trust. The Merifor range consists of superior foam mattresses for cribs, moses baskets and travel cots right through to cotbed mattresses which is what we were sent to try.
The Tranquillity Mattress was delivered to us in a huge stylish box with a handle, making it so much easier to manoeuvre up to the nursery. On opening, the mattress was well wrapped and ready to lay straight out into the cotbed.
The Tranquillity Mattress is definitely different and an award winner for a reason. It comes with two cores that grows along with your child, one side is to be used for infants under 10kg, then flip over to the other side which can be used when your child exceeds that weight. It’s made with foam and micro pocket springs and the fabric is completely breathable and heat regulating. The outer layer can even be unzipped and washed which is a fantastic benefit as Emilia was a huge drooler! The inner layer is waterproof and the anti allergy and Ellergenic aspect gives me peace of mind too.
I am so pleased with this mattress, it’s clearly made to last and that can be felt in the quality of the product. It has the required firmness needed for infant safety, yet feels so much softer and more comfortable to the touch than Emilia’s did. We didn’t scrimp on Emilia’s cotbed mattress but she never settled well on it, which resulted in us buying a Sleepyhead to use on top. As soon as she went into a toddler bed we actually changed it to a full size mattress. With the Tranquillity mattress I really feel we’ve chosen well and I can see this giving us the comfort we need and lasting us the years we require it for.
On arrival of the baby’s cotbed, we’ve found the mattress to fit well and snugly, there are no gaps to the sides of the cotbed which is great. I’m really looking forward to seeing how the little one gets on with this mattress when the time comes to move him into the nursery. I’ll be sure to update here when that happens and for now, this mattress gets a huge thumbs up!
